IC Information:
Name: Charles Francis Xavier
Fandom: X-Men: First Class
Timeline: Mid-Movie, only because I'd feel really bad putting him in a wheelchair in this
Age: 27 (Script lists him as 24, I calculated him being 29 or 30 given the dates, but I evened it out since he'd need to be resilient (it seems), I hope that's alright?)
Appearance:

Charles is of a thin to meduim build, with wavy, cleanly styled brown hair and bright blue eyes. He's got a occasional freckle, mostly on his nose. He stands with the posture of a taller man though he rests at five foot seven.
Abilities:
Strengths: Charles (during this time line) is the most powerful telepath to be discovered. He is able to perceive the thoughts of others and project his own thoughts for quite some distance. He can reach into the foreign language centers of the brain and teach himself a new language by mimicking the knowledge there in his own mind, or other’s minds.
He can warp peoples perceptions; allowing himself to look different or seem invisible, he can create illusions, erase memories, induce pain and cause temporary paralysis in others. If the range is within a mile or so he can manipulate multiple minds at once, however if he is attempting to take full control he can only do so with one individual. He can alter or impede the body’s natural senses; causing the subject to lose control of their sight, hearing, smell, taste, powers (if mutant) and more. With this he can also cause unconsciousness or even death.
He’s gifted with a eidetic memory which is also known as a photographic memory; it allows him to recall images, sounds or objects with great detail and remember a mass of these things for extended periods of time. This likely contribute to the fact that he’s got several degrees and is a well known geneticist with an expertise in mutation.
He can, by picking up the brainwaves of other beings, identify who they are and in some cases where they’re located.
Weaknesses: Charles, for all his intelligence, is not much of a fighter. Having a short stature of five-foot-seven and a thin build he’s built more for leading and organizing than he is for actual combat.
His single minded nature is a large flaw; so focused on his goals and arrogant (if not somewhat correct) belief that he could help change the course of man and mutantkind, his personal relationships often suffer. He tends to take may of his close relationships for granted, as he did with Raven, and only realizes after something has gone awry that he’s done wrong.
His naivety is a considerable weakness, for as educated and gifted as he is, he’s still lived a relatively sheltered life. He’s known loneliness and pain at the hands of another, but nothing quite as considerable as many of the mutants he comes across. His inherent good nature also makes him prey to those who would use it against him.
Personality:
Charles is above all else an optimist, he believes in the best of man and mutants alike. That despite the experiences life has brought about, you can master your own destiny and become the man you desire (with help from those around you). He believes that a kind voice and a caring hand can alter the world if given time; he believes that if you do good it will be done unto you and most of all he believes that some day mankind and mutantkind can coexist peacefully. He wants to work to build a future where mutantkind is accepted as evolution but not viewed as a threat, where they could-- with their vast abilities-- work together to make a better future for all. He finds that, with the exception of dire circumstances or to protect himself, violence is never the answer and he abhors killing.
That is not to say Charles is without his faults; he’s arrogant and at times naive. It would be amiss to say he was innocent, as any man who can see into the dark corners of other men’s minds is anything but innocent. Such as his encounters with Erik, while he can see into his mind and suffer with him, it’s obvious (from some of his actions and words, ala Cuba) that he doesn’t entirely grasp what he’s been allowed to see. Raised a (comparatively) sheltered life he can empathize with the pain however he cannot always understand the conflicting notions and lasting scars that come with it. His insufferable case of optimism brings about a naivety in the expectation that given the chance most men, if not all men, can be good. He is set in his ideals that his way is the only way which causes him to butt-heads with his close friend Erik. Charles often believes himself to be in the right because he can see into others minds and feels this gives him an an authoritative stance on most subjects.
Charles is very driven; he has several degrees (most recently his doctorate from Oxford) and when given the opportunity to work with the CIA he jumps right in even though he had just previously graduated. He’ll dive into most anything he can, as if testing the capacity of his own mind and pushing himself ragged for the sake of a cause he doesn’t even have the name for. This also leads him to be a bit selfish; he likes to be in control of things and lead the way, he has trouble abiding by the rules of someone else if he deems that they are unfair or incorrect. He wont hesitate to voice his opinion when sometimes things are better left unsaid.
Despite the fact that Charles wants people to perceive him as much older than he is he still has youthful digressions; mainly that he quite enjoys his drinking and chasing skirts. Charles, especially in his days at Oxford, was known to go out to the local pub, get mildly smashed and then attempt to pick up co-eds with amusing lines about genetic mutations and the evolution of man. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. He’s still young and has things to learn though he does his best to hide that fact.
History:
Charles Xavier was born the son of his loving father Brian Xavier, a scientist and a kind man who unfortunately died in an accident leaving his mother widowed. Soon, another man who had worked with Brian, Kurt, began trying to woo Charles' mother. The man, however wasn't doing it out of kindness or affection but rather because he wanted the money Brian had left to his family. Kurt was harsh and abusive, and with the drunken neglect of Charles' mother he discovered early enough to rely on his abilities and the family's staff to care for himself.
At age twelve he discovered he was not alone; a young girl named Raven Darkholme whom, hungry and having run away from her home, was foraging for food in his kitchen. She attempted to disguise herself as his mother, but her kindness in contrast to Charles' real mothers disinterest clued him into the fact she was not what she appeared to be. Charles was, however, delighted to see that there was another mutant like himself; and offered his home and food to Raven. Tricking the staff and his family into believing she was his true sister he 'adopted' her more or less. The pair became nearly inseparable, Raven being his only real friend. She even accompanies Charles to Oxford where he gets his degree in Biology, having done his final thesis on mutation.
He is shortly thereafter recruited by CIA Agent, Moira MacTaggert and after hearing rumored mentions of Sebastian Shaw's location they head out with the US Coastguard in an attempt to stop him before he can progress in his plan for starting a nuclear war. It is at this point Charles meets the man who shapes his world more than any others had before. Erik Lehnsherr. A metal-bending, Nazi-hunting, mentally scarred man who would become his best and closest friend. They are unable to stop Shaw when he escapes in a submarine attached to the bottom of his yacht. Erik takes after the sub, using his magnetic force to latch on but Charles, sensing another like him leaps into the water in order to stop him. Erik is resentful at first, than confused, till Charles elaborates that he's not alone-- there are other mutants, and he's one of them.
Allowed to stay in Agent Black's (Or so I'm calling him as he is not giving a name) facility, the group (Erik, Charles, Raven, Moira) are introduced to Hank who Charles accidentally outs as a mutant after reading his mind. Hank is not only a genius, but he also has a mutation of his feet causing them to be large and hand like and give him super speed. Eventually Agent Black asks Charles about using Cerebro, a machine built by Hank that extends the power of telepaths and prints out the locations of mutants they find. It is then that Charles and Erik depart to recruit the first class of young mutants to train, and hopefully gain the assistance of, in order to stop Shaw.
Roleplay Sample - Log: It's the early morning hours and he can see the snowfall from his window; he could remember, in his younger days, that the fluttering powder was cause for both jubilation and distress. He delighted in trudging through every bit of snow he could, much to his mothers disdain, and then regretting it in the late evening while she chided him and he shivered like a mouse next to the fireplace. There's a small part of him that would give, so much, to be able to do that again-- even the trembling aftermath while his body struggled to warm itself; but he was too far past that, this evening.
Not that he couldn't appreciate the snow, the fresh coat of white changing the entire landscape of the school. The steady sound of snow crunched under boots and the majestic moment, the additional sound of children (and some not-so-children) tumbling out the front door managed to bring a smile to his face. Reaching down he grasped at the slim metal handle, dislodging the break and letting his chair roll a little closer to the window so he could crack it open, ignoring the cold in favor of watching the next generation. He could sit here and read for the evening, or so he planned, the chill of the evening almost making him feel more alive in the confines of his house. He could feel it numbing his fingertips, drawing the blood to his cheeks, nose and ears. A little puff of breath, visible and spiraling into nothingness. He could spend the evening caught in the cold and his texts and allow himself to be lost in the moment; not thinking of the future... or the past.
Or so he had thought.
The moment he felt the familiar weight at the back of his mind, the additional hum amongst the dozens of thoughts that teased his brain, he dropped his book. He leaned forward in the chair, arms strengthened from use, pulling him out of it just slightly when he gripped the windows edge. "Erik!"
Roleplay Sample - Journal:
I wonder how the students are back home. I hope they're doing well enough-- but I suppose I should be worrying about myself, shouldn't I? They've got Erik there, he may be a little harsh and unorthodox but I know he will take care of them. Perhaps I should be worrying for Moria instead. Ha.
I never imagined I'd be home sick, than again I had never really thought of the Xavier Estate as home-- Raven and I had always preferred the flat at Oxford.
God, Raven, I hope she's alright-- we've never really been apart, at least, not in a long time; she's strong though, and she's got Erik too.
I need to find a way home, and soon, I've got an eerie feeling about this place.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
While being mentally strong Charles' is a bit sheltered so I'm decently sure once he realizes there's little he can do to help he's going to become rather sullen, but force an attitude of optimism in the hopes of helping others (especially those that may be younger than him with his mothering/professor like nature).
